The American family (Westbrook) and the Swiss family (Robinson) have several things in common: shipwrecked on a mysterious island, beset by pirates, and affected in positive ways from the forced challenges of survival; in other words, incredible adventures, and this one has a message.
Adam and Eve Westbrook each receive a diagnosis from their respective doctors which gives neither of them hope of living past six months. Their pastor’s idea for them to take the seaplane they own and fly down to the Virgin Islands to de-stress for a couple of weeks resonates with the ailing couple.
On the way to the restful destination, they make several stops to see friends. The first is in Florida, then on to Mexico, followed by Jamaica.
The morning Jim and Sally Baker see them off to St. Thomas is the last time they will be in contact with anyone for many months. Thirty minutes out, a dark cloud engulfs them and all power to the cockpit is lost. The choice of response is limited to praying and attempting to keep the plane level until the engine dies.
At the last possible second, the cloud vanishes just in time for them to spot a crescent-shaped island. Adam is able to set the plane down on the sand and they climb out unhurt. They give thanks for the safe landing, admit to God they do not understand what is happening, then surrender to His guidance and will. The lesson in obedience is powerful.
The Westbrooks are forced to make dramatic diet changes because of their unexpected circumstances. According to the author, the characters are based on real people and inspired by their testimonies of healing through consumption of raw fruits, vegetables and nuts as prescribed by Hallelujah Acres, a real, biblically based health ministry, dedicated to the premise that the body can be restored to physical harmony by following the plan outlined in Genesis 1:29:
And God said, "See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all of the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food." (NKJV)
Whether or not you embrace the intriguing diet principles taught by Health Ministers of Hallelujah Acres, and set forth in this fiction novel, you will be encouraged by the exciting changes manifested in Mr. Snyder’s characters. Each one sheds the bondage of disease, and through prayer and submission, discovers new God-given strengths and survival abilities. After this read, it will be hard to look at glaring nutritional inadequacies in the same way again.
