The Foreword to An Angel at Sunday School begins, "Tim White's personality shines brightly from beginning to end in this delightful narrative…" It certainly does shine, as Tim takes us from his late teens, and the meeting of his wife, to the present.

Tim tells us of his immediate crush as he meets the girl who would become his wife, and asks her out on their first date. Following southern protocol of the day, all dates are double dates. Tim's description of their first kiss is hilarious and in keeping with the warm and personal tone throughout the book.

Along the way, as Tim tells his story, he intersperses current narrative with reminiscences about past events in his life. His memory of his grandfather is poignant, as well as the stories he shares about struggling to keep his family's property through some very difficult crop years. This reading makes it obvious that Tim loves his family a great deal and was, and is, willing to do the necessary thing to keep it intact.

As Tim says, on page 78, "There are books everywhere about the 50s and 60s, but we've been overlooked. We're the generation [the 70s] that just missed the draft but still had to wear leisure suits." Thanks for the memories, Tim.

This book is only 90 pages, but is full of great memories in the life of the author. Yet, even though the book is written mainly about the woman he meets and marries, it is not until page 78 that her name is mentioned. Personalizing the story with the names of the characters would only have added to the charm of the story.
