Picture this: It's a sweltering day and you have walked for miles. Your throat is parched and your feet are burning and blistered. You feel like another step is impossible and the only thing to do is to give up.

Suddenly, right in front of you, a cool waterfall appears. Everything is green and peaceful; the perfect place to rest and restore. You slip into the crystal clear pool fed by the refreshing cascade of water. As you float through this unexpected serene place of rescue, your thirst is quenched and your soul is uplifted. In a while, armed with new insight and inspiration, you're ready to face the journey once more.

That's the best word-scene I can paint to parallel the lovely depth and joy in the contents of Deborah A. Morrison's message. The idea of writing a book had never occurred to her until God gave her an undeniable supernatural call to submit to His teachings in order to share His truths with others. First, he instructed her to not publish until she surrendered in obedience to those life-changing Holy lessons.

Seven years after she began her instructional journey with the Holy Spirit she felt re- generated with new spiritual growth and understanding. Only then did she feel released to share what she had learned. For four months, she says, the Lord woke her up at the same time in the early morning hours…not only with a message on her heart, but with the Scripture to confirm the message. The teachings and coordinating Bible verses listed at the end of each chapter fairly sing with harmony and comfort.

The main topics cover everything from marriage and divorce to parenting and sickness; from salvation and prayer to managing emotions, and every place in between. You'll find no psycho-babble here. Her no nonsense wisdom and advice is blessedly transparent and on target.

None of us escapes struggles as we plod through some of the confusing, lonely deserts of life. If you need a refreshing respite filled with sensible advice and encouragement, this is the book. The simplicity and authenticity of A Time to Reflect speaks volumes, but in a quiet and rational way. It's as if she is sitting at your kitchen table as you share a cup of tea. You talk and she listens…and then, she talks and you can't help but listen.

This is not the usual kind of devotional most of us have come to recognize. It's your mother or your sister or your best friend being bold enough to answer your burning questions and unafraid to give you some truthful answers.

I highly recommend this chance to soak your tired or frustrated human self in the cool, inspiring words of a woman who has clearly discovered God's purpose for her. It may be a divine opportunity to discover a few things meant for more than one of us.
