Shari Cutter and Carli Gomez are neighbors and friends whose husbands were victims of the 9/11 Trade Center attack. Shari owns a small clothing shop. Carli works for a department store. Floundering to make ends meet, Carli moves in with Shari to offset expenses. Like sisters, they cling to each other for support. To complicate matters, Shari finds out she is pregnant a few days after the terrorist attack. Her husband never knew.
In their confusion and need for information, the women go to a small café--a place as close to the devastation as they can find. It is there they spot Pastor Buckley Stahl circulating among other families, offering prayer and comfort. Each woman admits to the other how she used to be a believer but fell away. On impulse, they signal for the pastor's attention, and he responds.
In their deep need to find answers, they eventually find their way to Pastor Stahl's church. It is here they also find a friend in Greg Bowan, a trained counselor. When he offers to help Carli with the move to Shari's he arrives with his pal, Ron Alvarez. Both Christian men offer friendships that are integral to the healing of the young widows.
Although this novel suffered somewhat from a lack of editing, which some readers may find distracting, those who enjoy the Romance genre will be reminded that even in the midst of destruction and the stunning pain of losing a spouse, God holds us in the palm of His hand.
This is a story of two humans struggling with the personal horror of America's worst disaster and how each comes to term with its reality and moves on to love again. The premise is about trusting God to make a way when there simply seems be no way. In this book, He does just that.
