When Kathleen Yale's family was involved in a car accident, their lives were turned upside down. They would never be the same again, and Kathleen suffered a life changing injury. During the time following the accident, as she leant on God, Kathleen wrote the poems which now form the basis of her book Whispers of Faith.

This little book comprises 37 poems, all giving praise and worship to God. They are all very sweet, reflecting what must be the author's gentle spirit. Some are cries from the heart in times of hardship, and others are gentle reminders to take things one day at a time. Other poems are bursts of praise to the Lord, while others are whispers from God to the reader's heart.

One of my favorites was Inch by Inch, which includes this delightfully encouraging stanza:

"Inch by inch, it's a cinch when you let God be your guide.
Inch by inch it's a cinch when he is by your side.
Like the little inch worm, focus on your goal.
When you're ready to make that climb, take each step one at a time.
Just one step at a time."

Many of the poems, such as Inch by Inch, would work quite well as songs, and at times I felt Mrs. Yale may have written some of them as such. Another example of one of these song-like poems was the very encouraging My Life Began Anew, which had a refrain:

"And my life is full of your Light dear Jesus,
and I look to You to show me the way.
In our daily lives there are hardships and trials.
But You are only a prayer way."

The poems are all very simple, and most are quite similar in style and theme. As a result, Whispers of Faith would probably best be read as a quiet time companion rather than all in one sitting. If combined with a time of worship, devotional reading and Bible study, I could imagine any one of these little poems would help to bring encouragement and comfort to someone experiencing hardship or trial.
