The Christian Prayer Journal & Praise Report is a good tool for beginning Christian or those more mature in the faith. Angela J. Perez gives instruction for praying in an easy to understand manner, plus she describes different styles in her book. The first 25 pages are instructional, and the remaining pages are the journal.
There is a good amount of Scripture used to show how prayer is applied to the reader's life, and how prayer was used in Biblical times. Also verses tell of the promises of God that the reader can trust in as they pursue a revitalized prayer life.
The chapter How to Pray, gives good practical tips on enriching your prayer life. It first addresses the question, "What is Prayer?" With the definitions given from Thomas Nelson, Webster's, etc., the reader can see that, basically, prayer is talking to God. The author sends the message to the reader that prayer is not a complicated thing. Anyone can talk to his or her best friend. That is how we are to talk to God. The steps outlined in the book are:
Prayer by Model;
Prayer by Appointment; and
Prayer by Perseverance.
There are also a few prayers scripted to get the beginner started.
The last chapter discusses the value of prayer. Here is an excerpt of this chapter:
"Where would we be without communication with God? We would be lost, still sinners, and cut out of our Father's will. Thanks to the grace of god and His Son Jesus, we have open communication with God. We don't need a priest, a veil, or a curtain - we have a bridge - Jesus Christ!
There are a few editing issues in the book, but all in all, this book would be useful to anyone who would like to increase in their prayer life.
